The Pomegranate Workshop

Creative Energies At Work

Pomegranate Y - IMPACT Theatre Mentorship!

This June dive into something that transforms you into a professional artist and performer.

  • In 2016 Pomegranate's student production Antigone 2.0 was in the top 10 theatre picks for the year by the Mumbai Theatre Guide.

  • In 2017 the mentorship production, Mad or What, was staged at The Cuckoo Club

  • Over 10 shows by Pomegranate staged across the city including NCPA, G5A (Mahalakshmi) and Sitara Studio (Lower Parel)

The exclusive Pomegranate Y-Impact (Youth Impact) mentorship which has created award winning films by students over two consecutive years (The films have been selected for over 15 international festivals including Norway, Germany, Turkey, Kenya, Los Angeles among many others) is back this year with another world class program!

Siya Chandrie,

a 2017 humour mentorship participant won a fully funded summer program to train at the Tisch School of Performing Arts, New York in 2018.

The Pomegranate Workshop presents a unique mentoring opportunity for young adults to develop the skills and artistic experience to evolve as theatre artists specializing in humour. The Y-IMPACT Project is an intensive mentorship-based

Participants will be introduced to various kinds of humour like stand-up, cross-talk, ensemble, comedic sketches, song and music parodies, mime-clown-buffoonery and genres like satire, parody, absurdist, farce, self-deprecating and dark humour.

They will then work with the mentor on selected styles and organically create their very own performance pieces that they pick to explore in detail.

At the end of the mentorship the mentees will have created their very own humour based performance that Pomegranate will showcase as a public event.

In addition, Pomegranate follows a sustained strategy to showcase strong performances and films that emerge from our mentorships from time to time through public events at suitable venues, as opportunities and funding possibilities present themselves.

The Pomegranate Theatre Mentorshiphumour is a one of its kind opportunity to work with one of the best humorists in India! The program is helmed by none other than the inimitable Joy Fernandes, one of India's most respected theatre actors and humour specialists.

Joy Fernandes has over 25 years of theatre experience both internationally as well as nationally. His experience spans across working on stage, in films, on TV, in advertisements, writing a book, conducting workshops, conceiving, designing & directing events, writing ad copy and scripts!

Joy has just completed an extremely well received tour of Merchants of Bollywood directed by Toby Gough across London and Berlin, where he played the principal character of Shantilal Merchant. The production has also toured Australia (Perth) and Singapore and had a 17 city tour of China.

In A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Time Supple, Joy played the lead character of Nick Bottom and travelled successfully to perform over 250 shows (spanning more than 2 years) in UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Verona and India.

Here is what The Guardian, UK has to say about Joy ‘...And there is a magical moment in the play when the dying Pyramus announces ‘my soul is in the sky’...it is appropriate that the line is spoken by Joy Fernandes’ Bottom, since his performance epitomises the virtues of this production. Fernandes has weight, dignity and the total dedication of the artisan turned actor...’ – Michael Billington, The Guardian, UK
